La Méridionale's crew members
Over 500 women and men, working on land and at sea, keep La Méridionale's values alive.
Together, they ensure passengers and freight travel in excellent conditions.
Seagoing crew
Among all the sea crew on-board our ships sailing to Corsica and Morocco, the Captain is, without any doubt, the most iconic of all. This officer represents the shipowner and is the only "master on-board". They are responsible for:
- Navigation;
- Quality, security, safety and the environment;
- Business operations;
- The crew.
To find out more about the Captain's job, discover the interview given by Emmanuelle JARNOT, first female Captain on-board a RoPax vessel, making crossings to Corsica.
Engine Department
The Chief Engineer on-board ferries to Corsica and Morocco is responsible for the technical maintenance of the entire ship and its equipment.
They are helped by the Second Engineer and the Third Engineer. They are in charge of servicing the propulsion system, power generation and the gear.
The Chief Engineer leads a team that includes the Engine Room Supervisor, the Master Electrician and their workers.
Deck Department
The Deck Department is responsible for the ship's navigation and manoeuvring.
It is commanded overall by the Chief Mate.
The Watch Officer, the Navigation Officer and the entire deck crew work to ensure you travel to Morocco and Corsica with total peace of mind.
Steward's Department
The staff in the Steward's Department are under the responsibility of the Chief Steward. Their job is to ensure passengers are offered excellent service.
Land professions
Onshore staff make up a third of La Méridionale's workforce. Most of these employees live and work in Corsica and Marseille.
La Méridionale agency work
Employees in our Corsica and Marseille agencies are spread over two departments.
Passenger Department
The customer advisers in our shipping company work in the Passenger Department and deal with requests for information and booking by phone, by email and in-agency.
As they are multi-taskers, they also look after passenger boarding in the passenger terminal.
Freight Department
Freight carriage is La Méridionale's traditional core business. Today, freight assistants are in charge of booking and boarding general cargo.
Our company's expertise and know-how have led it to become a benchmark in carrying rolling freight, oversized vehicles, temperature-controlled cargo, etc
Shipyard professions
Around twenty professionals carry out first-line maintenance of our ships when they stop off in Marseille. They include mechanics, boilermakers, cabin crew, etc.
Support roles
A host of other professions that are not linked to the maritime world are indispensable for the company to operate smoothly.
Human Resources, Purchasing Department, Legal Department, Information Systems, etc. play a role in La Méridionale's management and development.
For example, communication and marketing teams define the pricing policy and promote special offers to customers.
Our Diversity Charter
La Méridionale focuses on promoting diversity in the composition of its staff and tackles discrimination with regard to employment opportunities. It has signed the Corporate Diversity Charter to support its human resource management initiatives.
This recruitment policy ensures that relations between La Méridionale staff and its customers are effective and of excellent quality.
Our shipping company has established links with organizations such as the "École de la 2e chance", a national continuing education programme, as well as with Centre Marseille's PLIE (local multi-annual plans for inclusion and employment). These partnerships help it employ candidates who often face difficulties in their job search.
Everyone working in La Méridionale ensures customer satisfaction as well as their safety and security. To this end, the company hires people who are:
- Determined and rigorous;
- Service-minded and team players.
