Safety and security on-board La Méridionale ships
Safety and security standards applicable to Corsican, Moroccan and French routes are the same.
They are governed by the International ISM Code (International Safety Management Code) which evolved through the development of the guidelines on management for the safe operation of ships and for pollution prevention.
Ships
Our 4 ferries serving Corsica and Morocco undergo stringent, ongoing safety and security inspection performed by the French Maritime Affairs body and by an independent classification body that regularly checks the hulls, machinery and safety equipment on our ships.
This rigorous monitoring enables us to keep check on and eliminate the most significant risks to our ships.
Crew
Our crew members hold French qualifications meeting International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) standards.
They take part in fire and abandonment drills every week.
Company
French Maritime Affairs supervise the organization of safety and security management on-board our ships making the Marseille-Corsica and Marseille-Tanger-Med crossings. This inspection takes place on an annual basis. It focuses on:
- The ship maintenance policy;
- Crisis management;
- Risk analysis.
Safety and security conditions on-board La Méridionale
The International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS) details the procedures that shipping companies must comply with, on land and at sea, to ensure passenger and crew safety.
Following the implementation of the state of emergency, the French government demanded that security checks for accessing ships be tightened to optimize safety and security during sea crossings. Consequently, all passengers and vehicles are checked during boarding.
Drills are organized every quarter in the company and once a year with a public security force.
Thanks to strict compliance with legislation, to the attention paid to its fleet and to the expertise of its staff, La Méridionale and its ferries have not experienced any incidents involving passenger safety or security.
