A strong environmental commitment
With Alba Nova and Azura, La Méridionale is taking a further step towards reducing its environmental impact.
Next-generation LNG / electric hybrid propulsion
Zéro polluting emissions while in port in Corsica or Marseille
Up to 50% fewer emissions
While in port, the vessels can operate using their batteries, with no smoke emissions. The goal is clear: to achieve “zero-smoke” port calls in Corsican ports, following the approach already in place in Marseille since 2017, where our vessels can connect to the shore-side electricity network (CENAQ).
A quieter présence for marine wildlife
The vessels also feature a quieter sailing mode, Silent-E mode, designed to reduce underwater noise — an important benefit for cetaceans, which are particularly sensitive to acoustic disturbance.
The refrigerants used for air conditioning and refrigeration on board have also been selected for their lower impact on the climate.
More responsible water management
A large proportion of the fresh water used on board is produced directly by the vessels through a system that converts seawater into drinking water. The onboard water systems have also been optimised to reduce waste
A smarter use of energy
The vessels are equipped with steerable electric propulsion pods, a more efficient propulsion system that can reduce energy consumption.
Another smart feature is the recovery of heat generated by the engines. Rather than being wasted, this energy is reused to help generate electricity on board.
