Corsica by helicopter
Corsica is an island paradise that can be visited in any season. To know when to head to Corsica, if you're looking for culture-rich holidays,
we advise you to visit the Island of Beauty in springtime.
If you love fine sandy beaches and turquoise water, then summer's the best moment. If you fancy peacefulness and highly-affordable accommodation, then autumn's your best bet. And if you're a fan of snow sports, then winter's a must when Corsica boasts fabulous snow-covered scenescapes.
Corsica is one of French people's favourite destinations. To visit the Island of Beauty in a one-of-a-kind way, get on-board a helicopter to admire Corsica from the sky. You'll enjoy an incomparable, special experience where you'll discover the island and its hidden paradisiacal gems. Remember to take your camera with you to immortalize these rare panoramas of Corsica.
VISITING SOUTHERN CORSICA IN A HELICOPTER
Why not choose a Marseille-Propriano crossing with La Méridionale to start your Southern Corsica holidays in style. While you're on the island, we recommend you visit a few can't-miss Southern Corsica towns like Ajaccio, Bonifacio, Piana, as well as Porto-Vecchio.
You can visit Bonifacio in the traditional way, especially its marine cemetery and Aragon's stairway, or choose a flight by helicopter to admire its white limestone cliffs. And, if you've already taken a boat trip out to visit Piana's calanques, why not rediscover them from a helicopter.
First sightseeing flight
Your first sightseeing flight by helicopter in Corsica is an opportunity to enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience and to visit remarkable sites. Flights are proposed all year round if the weather is fine of course. You can fly over the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio and the magnificent beaches of Palombaggia and Santa Giulia, for example.
Panoramic discovery tours
During your helicopter flight over Southern Corsica, get out your wide-angle lens to immortalize the breathtaking vistas before your eyes. A wide array of "panorama discovery" tours are proposed:
- Porto-Vecchio and its beaches
- Bonifacio and its coastline (its limestone cliffs as you've never seen them before)
- Piantarella Lagoon and its turquoise water
- The Aiguilles de Bavella (Bavella Needles)
FLYING OVER THE GULF OF PORTO VECCHIO AND ITS BEACHES
Porto Vecchio is a port town, with the walls of its 16th-century Genoese citadel outlining the old town. A helicopter flight will invite you to view Porto Vecchio form ahigh and to admire its beaches and turquoise water, especially Palombaggia and Santa Giulia.
We can also mention Carataggio Beach as well as Marina di Fiori Creek, known by insiders, that stretches over 100 m or so. If you're after a bit of peace and quiet far from crowds, then definitely go and visit it.
BONIFACIO AND ITS LIMESTONE CLIFFS
Bonifacio is located at the tip of Southern Corsica. It's a port town that's famous for its vibrant marina, its marine cemetery and its medieval citadel towering majestically above the cliffs. At the south-east of Corsica, Lavezzi Islands form a nature reserve that you can also admire during your flight over Corsica by helicopter.
We also recommend a tour over Bonifacio by helicopter to view Aragon's stairway dating back to 1420. According to legend, this stairway with its 187 steps, was carved out of the limestone rock in a single night by King of Aragon's troops.
A TOUR OVER PIANTARELLA LAGOON
Piantarella Lagoon with its fine sand and turquoise water is located just 15 minutes from Bonifacio. It's easily accessible and here you can enjoy a host of activities with your family like kayaking, SUP, etc.
While you're here, head to the magnificent Petit Sperone Creek just 10 minutes' walk away. You'll feel as if you're in heavenly paradise here as the creek's sheltered from the wind, has turquoise water and fine white sand.
So, for your first sightseeing tour of Corsica by helicopter, make a date to fly over the lagoon and the creek, they offer you a magical panorama of Corsica from the sky.
THE AIGUILLES DE BAVELLA, BETWEEN MOUNTAINS AND THE SEA
The Aiguilles de Bavella (Bavella Needles), an extraordinary can't-miss site, just 30 min from Porto-Vecchio in Southern Corsica. When you discover Corsica by helicopter, we highly recommend you fly over the incredible Aiguilles de Bavella.
You can also enjoy trekking to the Needles along a host of different trails where you'll be able to take in the beauty of the landscapes around you. To reach the Aiguilles de Bavella, located in the Corsica Regional Nature Park, you'll cross through Ospedale Forest and via the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio. Our tip for a treat: glance over the Needles as the sun goes down when they take on an amazing nuance of colours veering from grey to red.
For those who love walking in unspoilt nature, you can head off on various hiking and trekking trails from the Col de Bavella located at 1,243 m altitude.
- "Le Trou de la Bombe": a 3-hour loop
- "La Croix de Leccia": a 2-hour loop. Important, this trek is difficult and you need to be well kitted out.
- "Le refuge de Paliri": a 4-hour loop
- The Alpine equivalent of the GR20: a 4-hour loop to Punta di u Pargulu, and a full 7-hour loop with the return hike via the GR20.
If you wonder what you can do in Southern Corsica in winter, well, you can change your hiking boots for snow shoes and head off on snow-covered trails through the Ospedale Forest and other natural sites in Corsica.
